Your thoughts are very powerful and will determine your destiny. If you do not have command over your thoughts, then you will let life dictate where you will end up and most of the time its where you don’t want to end up. Most people do let their negative thoughts overpower them, and they live an unfulfilled life as a result. A lot of people that are unhappy with their life, will turn to multiple therapists for help. A therapist will make you dwell in the past during therapy, and this is unlikely to help you achieve your desired goals.

When you use the techniques in NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), you will be in charge of your mind and thoughts and not the other way around. A controlled mind leads to a controlled life. NLP is different from therapy as it focuses on the “How” and not the “Why”.

At this stage in your life, you may feel that you are not in control of much. That’s OK because the starting point with NLP is to control what is going on in your mind. This includes your thoughts, emotions, and feelings as these are things that make you who you are right now. These three things will make you act in a certain way. You may have ingrained beliefs about yourself that could go way back to your childhood. Maybe your teachers, or even your parents and siblings at home, said something to you which really resonated, and you have never forgotten it.
Some of these beliefs will be limiting you – and you may not even realize it. With NLP you will be able to identify these limiting beliefs and eradicate them so that you can move forward. You may have a phobia from the past that lingers on and is holding you back. With NLP, you can change your thoughts and feelings so that these phobias disappear.

What you believe is critical

Beliefs are very powerful things. The human mind is so strong that if you truly believe that something bad is going to happen to you, then it probably will. The reverse is also true in that if you believe that something will make you better (even if it doesn’t have the power to do that), then you will get better. If you believe that you can achieve something, then you definitely will. If you think that you can’t achieve something, then you probably won’t be able to achieve it. When you experience and prioritize your limiting beliefs telling you that you are no good or you can’t do something, then you can challenge it. You can do this effectively by telling yourself:
“I can do that… I just need to know how”
“This is just an opinion and it is wrong”

Questions are very powerful

By learning NLP you will learn how to ask yourself the right set of questions. This is vital because if you ask yourself the wrong questions, then your mind will give you answers that will disenfranchise you and make you feel weak and useless.
Everyone once in a while asks themselves negative questions such as “why is my life so bad?”.  Well, your mind will come back with lots of reasons as to why your life is bad, and none of them will make you feel good.
A better question format would be “what do I need to do to make my life better?” Here your subconscious should come up with some positive answers that you can work on to improve your life.

Setting Goals with a difference

Most people are familiar with setting goals, but when you do this using NLP, there is a difference in traditional goal setting. With traditional goal setting, you just come up with a list of desires and then try to achieve them.
Most people fail when they do this. With NLP, you will be certain about your goals and what you really want. It will challenge the real reason why you want more money or a bigger house.
Your emotions come into play so that you know the real reason behind the desire of starting that business or going on that diet and exercise plan. When this is clear, you will be truly be motivated to achieve your goals.
